Endurance World Championship 2005

FINLAND GP Heinola 27-28 JULY 2005

POHJAMO OPTIMUM SECOND PLACE ON THE FIRST DAY OF RACING

Alessio Paoli defended the colours of the TM Racing Berloni team excellently also in Finland. In spite of the difficulties of the difficult terrain for a driver used to hard ground and special practices completely different to those faced in Finland, Alessio confirmed being among the top riders of the world championship in the E3 class. “It certainly wasn’t an easy race, driving on these terrains isn’t my strongpoint but thanks to training in the zone in recently I gained more confidence and was able to say my own in this race too”.

After the results, in increasing enthusiasm for the most recent practices, Petri Pohjamo’s was the most awaited race, celebrated with an optimum second place with a minimum distance from the highest step of the podium. Sunday, however, he preferred to end his practice after having hit his elbow, injured during the first round of the world championship. “Saturday was more than positive, I was also able to conquer the best class times in some specials. I was certainly advantaged by racing at home, here in Finland, but a podium is not achieved only with this advantage. On Sunday, instead, I preferred to stop. A fall and I hit my elbow that was already hurting. After so many months stopped and a world championship already closed after the first race, it was better not to take unnecessary risks”.

Richard Larsson’s performances were also good, seventh and fifth during the two days of racing. “A race with results of the single specials a little seesawing. Unfortunately, after podium time, some falls or errors slowed me down, above all in the extreme practices in which, paradoxically, I obtained the best result in this race, best place in the first lap on Sunday”.

Junior Jacob Stapleton, after the not brilliant performance on Saturday, fifth as a result of a fall in the in line special, had to retire completely, again because of a fall. “I was doing well on Saturday, places in the specials were as always among the top, but a fall during the Endurance Test made me lose several seconds, therefore ending fifth. On Sunday I preferred not to finish the race after a fall again in the in line practice”.
